DIY Party Dessert Stands

trays7
I absolutely LOVE making these inexpensive dessert stands and food trays for parties. Especially since they are easy to store and can be reused over and over to match any parties theme. I have used the ones you see above multiple times. I created my own with a twist after seeing Joy’s Hope blog. She made a really cute version of these for her home.

Supplies Needed:
Note: you can get as many trays and bases as you need for your particular party…I always say more is better!
-a variety of trays from Dollar Tree (I mainly use the different silver trays they have and some plastic trays)
-a variety bases to hold the trays (you can use anything…glasses, candlesticks, flower vases…walk around the store and get creative)
-white primer
-spray paint the colors of your party (It can be any kind you just decide whether you want a matte or glossy look)
-mask- this can get smelly
-canvas tarp/cardboard box…something that can get spray paint on it.
-hot glue gun & glue sticks

Instructions:
Step 1: spray all of the trays and bases with a white primer & allow to completely dry (sometimes I skip this step, but have noticed how much better they turn out when I do this. The above photo is some trays I have already used and cheap glasses I had laying around)
Step 2: Decide which pieces you want which colors and spray paint them the correct color & allow to completely dry ( I usually just make random piles and spray them each a different color, it makes it fun in the end when stacking the trays, getting to mix and match. For this example I decided to do all blue for a baby shower)
Step 3: Now you are ready! You can start mixing and matching the stands for your party. Then beginning with the bottom tray begin to hot glue them together. If you have to transport your trays to a different location I usually wait to stack them when I get there. It makes it really easy to transport. Just make sure to take along your hot glue gun. The hot glue works temporarily until you decide to pop them apart and store them for the next party. The silver trays come apart the easiest while the plastic trays sometimes break when pulling apart.

We had fun at the mustache baby shower and this tray held the sandwiches which really added a cuteness to the table. Just for your own curiosity here is the No-Bake ‘Blue’berry Cheesecake Parfaits & printables you see in the photo below.

Becky’s Bridal Shower was so beautiful! We used a variety of trays and painted them a matte gray, glossy white & glossy purple. Then we made mini pies and desserts to put on them! I am currently obsessed with mini desserts and food just so I can use these trays.

Another party we used these was Ella’s 1st Birthday. Of course I used most of the same trays from the bridal shower, but painted over some of them a light pink instead of the purple. So cute! This was a cheesecake bar where everyone could put on their own cheesecake toppings. I used the same cheesecake recipe as I used at the baby shower.

Yes, that is Becky and BJ being silly at Ella’s party behind the DIY sandwich stand. I hope you enjoy making these and reusing them over and over again! I sure do. I actually have a party coming up in a couple weeks and I can’t wait to spray paint them to match our theme and make new ones!

  6. Hi! These are great ideas and I am so gonna try them out!

Just a question. What kind of paint did you use? Since food is gonna be served on it, I am just wondering which kind of paint would be safe 🙂

Thanks and have a great day!

    • I actually just used regular spray paint. Any kind that you want works great. I don't think spray paint is ever safe, but I usually make mini desserts that are in their own type of dish so the food doesn't touch the spray paint. If you are concerned you can always put down cute scrapbook paper under the food also. Hope this helps! Thanks for stopping by.
